Some things you might not know about breastfeeding….
 

Humans are one of 4237 species of mammals, all of whom breastfeed their young. (www.breastfeeding.org)

Pregnancy is not a pre-requisite for breastfeeding.

There is ten times the amount of silicon in formula milk than a mother with implants breastfeeding. (www.breastfeeding.co.uk)

You can store breastmilk in the fridge for 24 hours and in the freezer for up to 3 months. (Successful breastfeeding Royal College Midwives, 2002)

In March 1999, there were 170 visual references to bottlefeeding on television and just 1 to breastfeeding. There were 27 references to the difficulty of breastfeeding and 1 to the difficulty of bottlefeeding. UNICEF estimate that 1.5 million babies worldwide die each each year because they are not breastfeed. (WHO/UNICEF Estimates, 1996)

The NHS spends at least £35million per year treating gastro-enteritis in bottle-fed babies in England and Wales. (Breastfeeding: Good Practice Guidance to the NHS, DoH 1995)
