Currently I am working with a team of multi-agency workers and residents on a programme of neighbourhood regeneration New Deal for Communities. The teenage pregnancy rate in the area is high and we will be increasingly involved in how we can impact on reducing the number of teenagers that become pregnant and also offering those that do an improved and co-ordinated service. As part of the consultation process and baseline health data collection I have identified a teenage pregnancy group that is just starting in the area at a local Family Support Centre run by SSD. They have identified a gap in service provision for these young women and are attempting to address some of their unmet needs. As the consultation process continues I am sure other initiatives will be identified and my role is to look at current service provision, co-ordinated approaches and identification of how services can be improved in line with local HImP's and national inititiatives eg the National Strategy from the Social Inclusion Unit re Teenage Pregnancy. I intend to consult with the local people and the teenage mothers,LEA Dept, Schools, SN's, the teenage pregnancy co-ordinater, youth services,PCG/T's, sexual health services and I am sure many others who I haven't identified as yet.
