The BBC reports that the European Agency for the Evaluation of Medicinal Products (EMEA) has launched an investigation into the safety of HRT. The investigation has been set up after the results of the ‘Million Women Study’ were published in the Lancet recently (Lancet 2003 362:419-27 and 414-5). The study found that women who used particular types of HRT long term had double the risk of breast cancer.
