New Nursing Council Chair welcomed by CPHVA

The appointment of Jonathan Asbridge as President of the shadow Nursing and Midwifery Council has been warmly welcomed by the Community Practitioners’ and Health Visitors’ Association.

The CPHVA’s director, Jackie Carnell said: ‘Jonathan Asbridge is passionate about the role of nursing as a caring profession and how it will develop in the coming years. He is a strong advocate of the importance of the public health agenda and this can only be good news for health visitors and community nurses.’

‘I am delighted that the four health visiting members of the council and the four alternate members are of such a strong calibre. I know that they will make a positive contribution to the work of the council and provide an eloquent voice in support of public health practice.’

Registrant members (Health Visiting): Bronya Webster (representing England), a health visitor and project leader in the Black Country Education and Training Consortium; Marianne Cowpe (Wales), senior lecturer and team leader, University of Glamorgan; Ishbel White (Scotland), works in the multi-cultural health office, Glasgow Primary Care Trust; and Fiona Wright (Northern Ireland), a manager of a specialist nurse team and health promotion department and currently a UKCC member.

Alternate registrants (Health Visiting): Heather Livesey (England), a senior lecturer and practitioner, University Central Lancashire and Guild Community Healthcare Trust; Anglea Roberts (Wales), a health visitor and teacher in community practice; Ann Gow (Scotland), a nurse consultant in public health, Glasgow Primary Care Trust; and Maureen Jamison (Northern Ireland), a health visitor with responsibility for child health surveillance, health promotion and family support.

All the health visiting representatives are members of the CPHVA.
