Health Visitors Step into Revolutionary World of E-Learning
Health visitors and school nurses will be able to download edited highlights of their annual professional conference from the Internet - thanks to a Ł50,000 government grant.
The Community Practitioners’ and Health Visitors’ Association has been awarded the money by the Department of Education and Skills’ Union Learning Fund.
A total of 33 hours of the professional sessions from the CPHVA’s November conference in Bournemouth will be filmed and then turned into on-line lectures.
The CPHVA’s Education Officer, Sarah Forester said: ‘This is quite a revolutionary departure for a small professional association such as the CPHVA. We were able to apply for the money, as we are a professionally autonomous section of the MSF trade union.’
‘E-learning for professional development in health care is a growing area and I believe that our members will greatly benefit from this exciting innovation. We have already done a pilot of a recent postnatal depression conference, part of which is already available on the web.’
The company producing the learning packages is CPD Media and they will be ready in the New Year. Access will be via www.cpdmedia.com and there will be a link with the CPHVA's website www.msfcphva.com. The highlights will be accessed and downloaded by anyone with a computer and the necessary software.
The CPHVA recently launched the Make IT Happen campaign to ensure that every community nurse has a computer on their desk, access to the Internet and the proper training.
