New Chair Selected For the Community Psychiatric Nurses Association
An Aberdeen community psychiatric nurse, Sharon Duncan has been elected as the new chair of the 2,700-strong Community Psychiatric Nurses Association.
Ms Duncan, who specialises in adolescent psychiatry for NHS Grampian, took up her year-long post at the CPNA’s annual conference in Edinburgh.
Ms Duncan said: ‘The main theme for the next 12 months is to increase awareness amongst members that the professional and labour relations’ areas can’t be separated. Nurses need to grasp the political nettle.’
The current political agenda will by its very nature force nurses to look at their roles within a rapidly changing NHS.’
The AGM agreed to change the name of the Association to make it more appealing and inclusive to all mental health nurses. Members will be fully consulted on the new name, which should be agreed in time for next year’s conference.
