AMICUS-MSF OPT FOR TWO STAGE BALLOT ON AGENDA FOR CHANGE

Amicus-MSF has opted for a two-stage ballot of its 70,000 health sector membership on the Agenda for Change (AfC) package.

The union’s National Advisory Committee agreed to ballot members in May with a recommendation that Early Implementation should
proceed in the selected number of NHS trusts which will ‘road test’ the various elements of AfC to see how they will operate in the workplace.

Should the Amicus-MSF membership vote in favour of Early Implementation, the union will monitor the results and there will be further
talks with the Department of Health before the final package is presented to a members’ ballot in the summer of 2004.

The Amicus-MSF Head of Health, Roger Spiller said: ‘We don’t have enough information to be able to make a recommendation
on the package as a whole at this stage. Much work still needs to be done on the ‘job profiles’ to see which new pay band is
the most suitable one for the various groups of our membership. Scrutinising the Early Implementers process will greatly help in this.’

Amicus-MSF members will receive their ballot forms in early May and the ballot will close on 16 May, with the result being announced shortly afterwards.
