The CPHVA’s Professional Officer for Northern Ireland, Briege Coyle said: ‘We welcome the appointment of Nigel Williams. He is an excellent choice and appears to have been given a wide range of powers that could make him a very effective – and independent - advocate for children and young people in Northern Ireland.’

Mr Willams, who is currently Child Executive of Childnet International which specialises in protecting children from abuse on the internet, is due to take up his new role on 1 October.
Ms Coyle said: ‘The CPHVA would like an early meeting with Mr Willams, once he is in post, so we can discuss the many issues relating to young people’s rights and child protection. We look forward to working closely with him and his team in the months and years ahead.’
