This strategy for school nursing practice is the result of a comprehensive stock take from across the UK. It is a proposed agenda for action whose purpose is to clarify the scope and range of school nursing services. The National Steering Group's aim has been to:
-
Explore current issues in the delivery of services to meet the health needs of the school-age population
-
Reach a consensus on a national strategy for the delivery of school nurse services for the school-age population
-
Formulate a work plan to address the identified service delivery needs in line with current government policy
This strategy for service delivery is based on a review of the chanllenges of modernisation faced by the school nursing service. It is not a national service framework because it focuses on how this professional group should move forward rather than focusing on a defined service or care group.
This strategy is the outcome of consultations across the UK and is concerned with the school nurse role in delivering integrated programmes of care for children and young people of school age.
